What is Autism?

Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain that may affect the way a person communicates, interacts, and learns.  Autism consists of a number of possible characteristics including (but not limited to): social skills, communication skills, repetitive behavior, emotional regulation, sensory processing, flexibility, and special interests. People with autism may vary greatly in their abilities and challenges across each of these characteristics.
